I Did It!

My first entry ever is for Bah! Humbug! Challenge #3: Christmas Crackers. I've never made a cracker before, but it was fun to do. I searched online and found instructions at Rubberstamping.about.com (by Kate Pullen). I hope you enjoy it.

The papers for this cracker were from my stash. I edged the argyle paper using a scalloped cutting blade in my trimmer. The sentiment is a glitter rub-on by MM (the ribbons were also from my stash). Here's a close-up showing the glitter rub-on (I think you can see it).

 

 

Even though I missed the first two challenges due to illness, I am still making them for my own enjoyment and will post the results when finished.

Challenge #3

This is for Bah! Humbug! challenge 3, which is about Christmas Crackers. It took awhile for me to figure out this one, since I wasn't familiar with what a cracker was. In the end, my daughter came up with the idea to make one using instructions she found online. (She'll be posting her information shortly, and should include more specifics).

My cracker is made using Christmas papers and coordinating Christmas tree sticker that were in our stash. The striped paper was edged using a Fiskars punch and the white center band was embossed with a swiss dot embossing folder. Scrap ribbon finished off the cracker. The paper was a bit stiff, so I would probably try to use thinner paper in the future. It would make twisting and tying much easier and would result in a tighter finished product.

This was another fun challenge. I'm looking forward to the next one!

Challenge #2

Here's my entry for the second Bah! Humbug! challenge: stencils.

I used the same brass stencil for the owl in both tags, from The Stencil Collection. The owl on the white tag was chalked after embossing. A holly rub on from MM's fa la la collection was applied under the owl's beak (supposed to look like the owl is holding it in his beak) and red stickles was added to the holly berries. An Inkadinkado snowflake stamp was used on the background. Silver stickles were used on the branch and distress ink on the edges. Background mat was from Hobby Lobby's Magic of the Season Christmas 2010 pad. The blue tag's owl was lightly sanded after embossing. A Martha Stewart silver glitter marker was used to draw stars and a clear gem was added to the largest one. Background mat was white cardstock edged with the same glitter marker.

Challenge #1

This is my card for the first Bah! Humbug! challenge of 2011. Fairies, holly, or both may be used, so I've used holly. (No fairies in my stash, yet.) It was my first challenge card and I had lots of fun making it.

This is a view of the inside sentiment, which is a red scrap paper mat and clear sticker that came from a Christmas kit by Brenda Pinnick.

Supplies: white card blank, glittered holly frame die-cut by Brenda Pinnick (from the Christmas kit), greetings tree clear stamp by BasicGrey (from the LE Delta Stamp Set), white stickles for snow, and misc. rhinestones (gold star & red "berries").

Welcome!

Well, it's official. We finally started our own blog! (It really was easy.) A mother and daughter adventure through the vast world of crafting. One of our New Year's goals is to participate in challenge blogs that we've seen over the past year. To do so, we needed a blog! (Please don't expect anything fancy. We're new at this!)

We hope to share our creations with you, and welcome any tips or suggestions. We're mainly into paper crafts, but are also going to try our hand at other areas of crafting.

Most importantly, we are going to HAVE FUN!
